As the output you sent says:

but I agree that the rest of the message is not very helpful for the
uninitiated.

The file is corrupted, maybe by truncating, external edit or insertion of an
invalid character (via drag and drop or whatever).

I cannot spot the wrong character in the attached example. You might
try the divide-and-conquer method: move parts of the document into
another buffer until you are able to save. Refine until you find the
"guilty" character(s).
