Hi Richard,

I took a look at your example. First it didn't compile because it load a
heck.sty package. If I comment that one out of the preamble, it does compile
with left aligned formula and numbers on the left side. But I cannot
reproduce it! I looked at the Lyx source code, and the formula starts with a
\begin{gather}  environment command, which I am not familiar with. It is not
part of the AMS package, isn't it? How do I start such an environment?
