text boxes in 1.6.1

I use lyx 1.6.1 on a vector linux (slackware) computer.  I work in 
either letter or article, mostly article.

I used to use text boxes all the time.  They are no longer on the insert 
menu.  Rather there is minipage but I can't figure out how to change the 
width of the minipage.

Any suggestions re how to put "test box" back in the insert menu on 
article class?
