If latin modern is broken in your LaTeX distribution and you try to use that font in a document, you migth get an empty document, I guess. First priority should then be to repair your miktex installation. I am not familiar with miktex so I the only help I am able to give you is to remove it and install it again. Maybe someone else are more familiar with mixtex and can help you more. Ingar
