When you start a new document, type "Hi there", and start display math, LyX can accomodate the new stuff you write on the screen. Try to type some more text until you are at the bottom of your screen so that you need to scroll in order to see down. Now do Ctrl-Shift-M for display math, and .... Mukhtar
