I think this whole thread started with Steve's provocative statement that LyX isn't WYSIWYG, and he wished that it was. And, WYSIWYM is too obtuse and confusing. So, I have a suggestion:
Why not adapt Leslie Lamport's LaTeX description: "A Document Preparation System?" That removes all ambiguity and acronyms.
