(lyx-1.5.2 on ubuntu 7.10)
Opening old files that include some figures as external material
(e.g., a xfig figure),
processing the file (DVI, pdflatex) gives this error message

"Probably some characters of your document are not representable in the
chosen encoding.
Changing the document encoding to utf8 could help."

But changing to utf8 don't fix the problem.
Testing and testing, when deleting the figures, processing the file is OK.
Then, re-inserting the figures, processing the file is correct now.

Solved: The error is due to a wrong path of external material,
because the images were moved to other place in the meantime.

Then, why the error message does talk about the character encoding?
The message gives confusion to search a solution, don't it?

Thanks,
Ignacio
