How do you set the default paragraph alignment to left
justified (ragged right)? You can change individual paragraphs
so they display (and print) with left justified paragraphs,
but I want my documents to default to this.
You can add "\raggedright" to the beginning of a
document, but that does
not change the way lyx displays on screen (paragraphs
appear fully justified but do not print that way).
The alignment in output is set by your document class, so if you want to
change that, you need to use a different document class, or do something
to change the one you have. (Some document classes may have options for
this, as well. Check their documentation.) Changing the display in LyX
is a matter of editing the layout file, in which alignment is controlled
by the Align directive. If you're using, say, book.cls, then copy
book.layout to your local LyX directory (where it is is
system-dependent), open it, and then add to the end of the file:
Style Standard
Align Left
End
This will override the usual declaration. If you want this also for
other paragraph types, you'll need to add corresponding declarations for
the other paragraphs. But again: Changing this in the layout file won't
change it in the output; these are different beasts.
