Ah! So all this preamble mucking wasn't needed? Good to know! I tried and it still looks fuzzy on Linux. However, on Windows it looks fine. So it seems to be a problem with my display (LCD; on Windows it's on CRT). Excellent, this does exactly what I wanted. Thanks!
