There's documentation for amsmath -- I'm not sure if any of it is 
specific to the book class.  The reqno option is covered in section 2 of 
<latex root>/doc/latex/amsmath/amsldoc.dvi.  If you google amsmath and 
reqno, I think you'll find PDF versions on the web.
