Hi everyone,

I am new to Lyx and Latex, so thanks a lot for your patience.

I have a custom .bst file (made by others) that works like a charm in latex, on the very same machine I now run Lyx 1.4.3 on ubuntu dapper.

Now I am trying to use the same .bst file in Lyx but could not import it. I copied the file under /usr/share/texmf-tetex/bibtex/bst/udes_geotel (I created the directory udes_geotel myself) and ran texhash as root. Now I obtain

 >kpsewhich Udes_GeoTEL.bst
 >/usr/share/texmf-tetex/bibtex/bst/udes_geotel/Udes_GeoTEL.bst

So far you're doing everything correctly (and congrats for having the forethought to demonstrate that LaTeX knows where the .bst file is).

I close and reopen Lyx after I do Tools-Reconfigure but strangely my .bst file does not appear on the list... Is that normal?

Not sure -- been a while since I added a .bst file. Did you try Tools -> TeX Information, select BibTeX styles in the drop-down list, then click rescan?

Nevermind, I choose the file with the help of the Browse button. Now when I run Lyx, I get several error messages. This is strange as this file normally works very well on plain Latex... (I will copy a couple of error messages at the end of the message).

LaTeX choked on a couple of commands, \Indans and \volumename. I don't recognize them (which proves nothing), but I wonder if they indicate that you need to load a particular bibliography package (such as natbib or jurabib)? If you need one of those two, Document -> Settings -> Bibliography is the place to set them.

All else failing, export the document from LyX to LaTeX and compare the .tex file with one that compiles successfully outside LyX. Look for differences in the preamble and the stuff at the top of the file.

Another strange thing is that at the very end of the Latex log (when I do Document-Latex Log), it says
Output written on TEL914_lyx.pdf (109 pages, 20196253 bytes).
although there is no file created at all.

Was this after File -> Export or View -> PDF? If it's after View -> PDF, did you look in the LyX temp directory? File -> Export writes the output file to the directory where the .lyx file lives; View -> Anything writes output to a temporary buffer directory.

/Paul

does anyone have an idea?
thanks a lot from advance for your kindly help
