To the developers:
I understand the severity of the bug concerning compression on Windows, but
by the time you took the release off the site, I had already installed lyx
1.5 on one computer (home) and started working, and when I got to work and
wanted to install lyx there, the product was not availabe.
Despite the promises, lyx 1.4.5 could not down-convert the lyx file, so I
was "stuck".
This is a bug, if so.
Of course the lyx file is a text file and no real harm could be
caused, but nonetheless... Luckily I had saved the lyx 1.5 installer and
used it to install the buggy version on the computer at work.
A mere warning in my opinion should have sufficed.
This wasn't a good situation, and there wasn't an ideal solution. As
people had already experienced data loss, it was decided to do the most
radical thing. A warning might not be seen.
Sorry if it inconvenienced you.
