Is there any way to give you more information? Is there some logfile whose content I could post to help, or some startup option for LyX, that gives a more detailed error?
I can only say that the standard windows binary alway worked for me out of the box with LyX 1.4. And usually I don't have any Problems installing normal WinXP Software on my Transmeta notebook.
