I guess that a backtrace is required at this point.

As I've indicated before, I think the source of the problem lies with the way LyX-1.4.4 was compiled on PPC Mac: the Mac I used has an old copy of the developer's tools that seems to be the culprit. (My problem is that I don't have easy access to a PPC Mac anymore.) Anders Ekberg has volunteered to compile a new version, which hopefully will be available later this week.
