toolkit that LyX 1.4 uses) cause LyX to hang sometimes (for example,
when viewing the LaTeX preamble of an existing document). I'm currently
trying to fix that, maybe it will also solve your problems.
It did. LyX 1.4.4-4 installed easily, opens without crashing, and has
no problems with docs containing graphics.
