Hi José,

I'm not sure what you mean by the two alternatives above, so let me just tell 
you what I did.

I created a small tsjfbooks.layout file in the books's directory. I then did 
this:

ln -s /mybook/tsjfbooks.layout /home/slitt/.lyx/layouts/tsjfbooks.layout

I then Tools->Reconfigure, then opened the LyX file, then 
Document->settings->DocumentClass and chose tsjfbooks.layout, and was able to 
use my Story environment. But the bad news is my navigation went away.

I'll give one other clue. When I open the LyX file with LyX, calling LyX from 
a (Linux) command prompt, I get abunch of warnings:
