Thanks Jeremy, That worked, and I didn't even need the \pagenumbering{arabic} because my \mainmatter reset it to Arabic. All -- be aware that placement of the \pagenumbering{arabic} is important. If you place it before all text, it will have no effect. Instead, place it at the end of the first paragraph (typically the title).
