\renewcommand{\contentsname}{Contents}
in the end of the preabule but it's still the same !
You need to close and reopen the document, then everything should be fine. LyX creates some temporary files when you e.g. preview the file. When
you change the language, the LaTeX-package "babel" still thinks it is a French document due to the existing temporary files.
If reopening the document helped, could you please report this problem to
bugzilla.lyx.org.
