If you want to send it to me, I can try it out on my wife's machine and at least answer that question.
Odd. The problem went away. There appears to be an intermittant fault such that when acroread is launched directly from lyx that much of the text disapears and errors about a font being missing (the font name being random garbage). It seems that this fault was aggravated, not caused by the "\#". This fault occurs on my Fedora machine. I don't think I've ever noticed it on ubuntu. -- John C.
