False alarm, sorry.
Apparently the cause was an old preferences file from a previous
version of
LyX, as after quitting and restarting LyX everything was ok.
Please provide more details: what was different about that preference
file? Which version of LyX generated it? (Can you send me a
copy?) ... Did you run the LyX installer when you upgraded?
... We need to know how to handle these other cases as well ....
