I can see no difference here between newfile0x.png and newfile0x.jpg,
so I would
rather use the png file to be able to make it transparent. intop.png seems to have been resized: usually the bimapped image is OK if you avoid resizing.

If you prefer jpg, it would be better to hack the tex4ht configuration file, where conversions are described; this should take care of everything: image format and file name in html files.
as far as I understand, htlatex uses png because they are smaller and allow transparency. I had a look at the tex4ht configuration file and it doesn't look easy to hack in order to use jpg format! Since there's an advantage in using png, wouldn't it be possible to avoid resizing the images (which seems to cause loss of image quality on some machines)? is it right that this could be done by hacking the same conf file?
