it seems appropriate for LyX to develop an "import" feature in order to
gain their support. They already like Linux' stability. But need this
one enhancement to provide sufficient motivation for the switch.

SWP does *not* use standard latex. They *have to*

1. save to "portable" latex (does not help much)
2. put the files to a standard latex environment.
3. compile, most likely, they will have to
  - remove all tci stuff
 - remove tci defined macros, commands, whatever. there are a bunch of
them
 - if they are unlucky, remove all figures.
4. after latex can be compiled, import to lyx.

This is the exact reason why I do not use SWP, and I do not recommend
SWP to anyone either. It is of course possible to find out exactly SWP
does to its latex files and filter them automatically, but I do not
think that the lyx community would have the resource to do that.
