I just check and the stable LyX build from gentoo still is lyx-1.3.5-r2 :( Take a look at http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/Ebuild-packageAndInstallationHints and you will find a ebuild for 1.4pre3 - it shouldn't be too hard to get it to work with 1.4. Cheers, Michael
