Wow, I actually did get it to work, which is sad since the support is
going away in 1.4!
For example:
\xymatrix{& \xynode[-1,1]{S} \\ \xynode[0]{NP} & & \xytrinode{VP} \\
\xyterminal{It} & & \xyterminal{is raining} }
Will display a small syntax tree. Awesome!!
