Subject: Re: Convert framemaker to docbook-lyx -- safest path?
Hi Stephen
As we already have the framemaker source files its seems inefficient to
go via raster and OCR and back. I think that XSLT applied to mif2xml is
going to be a better plan, unless I find that the mif2lyx script can be
used, in which case that would be best.
Sounds like an interesting project though.
Cheers

It appears to me that CambridgeDocs xDoc Converter has an
evaluative download, but I don't know its limitations.

Shlomo Perets used to contribute regularly to the FrameMaker mailing
list and wrote FM applications and he might be an advice resource.
You mentioned in an earlier post you couldn't find the Perl
module for mif2lyx. I just tested the downloads and they work.

"XSLT is great for tree-to-tree transformations of documents
that start in XML. However, XSLT was never meant to be a full
parsing environment for unstructured content. It is not ideal
for parsing text or extracting meaningful tags out of the middle
of an element's textual block. There are several advantages to
using the xDoc transformation rules in tandem with ppXML.
Release 2.0 features include: New FrameMaker MIF Driver"
