Tex have it. The ifthenelse package isn't magic - like every other package it consist of tex commands only. So all you can do with packages you can do without too - the packages are only for convenience. :-) Tex conditionals are documented in the texbook. If you don't want to buy it you can download texbook.tex, just be aware that printing it is illegal. So you have to pay, or read the tex source. Helge Hafting
