Thanks for the suggestions, they look like what I'm looking for but are you 
able to give a little more detail, or point me in the right direction for 
where to work these out though.

I'm using 'xdvik version 22.40y'  and it appears to be nothing more than a 
viewer, with no output or file options at all. I have adobe reader 7.0, which 
I guess isn't going to be able to do what you suggest acrobat can do.

I'm off to google in the meantime, but would appreciate any further guidance,
