I see. The (1.3.5) Extended Features guide only refers to clicking on "the index button" not to clicking on "an index entry button". To avoid confusion, it should perhaps say (if in the new version it doesn't already): "Clicking on an index entry ("Idx") button re-opens the index tag, allowing you to edit it (LaTeX is accepted so be careful about adding any special characters) and use the advanced options provided by the makeindex helper application you are using (see XXX)." Using "an", "index entry", "Idx" and "tag" (which is what the Guide already calls this) makes it less confusing (or so I hope). > What are you trying to do?
