using hyperlinks?

I'm using the \usepackage{hyperref} in my preamble, and when I write a
URL in the text, it will turn into a link, however the 
\href{http://www.lyx.org}{LyX} type things do not work and just show
the plain text "LyX" without a link. What am I doing wrong?
