ok - here goes (minded for the wiki):

Questions, answers, and debate in a friendly atmosphere takes place on IRC
at the #lyx channel on the Freenode network. In order to get there, you need
a IRC client such as the excellent text based client irssi (or mIRC for
windows).

http://freenode.net/
http://irssi.org/
http://www.mirc.com/

Next you need to connect to your local Freenode server - choose one from the
list:

http://freenode.net/irc_servers.shtml

Finally it is just a matter of connecting.

$ irssi irc.debian.org <http://irc.debian.org>

and when connection is established:

/join #lyx

The channel may appear very quite, but try to look in between 20.00-22.00CET.

And in a quite period it is a good idea to check out the channel guidelines:
