Hi Stephen: Thanks for the explanation. I am using WindowsXP Professional (with absolute lates SP's installed). I did a "Large" (& not "Total") MixTex installation. Do you think that matters ? The size difference between Large & Total seems to be less than 15MB. I'd certainly perform the actions recommended by you. thanks & regards, bd
