Hello LyXers,

I followed the discussion on this and the lyx-devel list about the installer for LyXWin. As consequence especially from this article:
http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/61789 (in german)
I decided to write a new one that includes all neccessary files and programs.

The installer installs a full functional LaTeX-environment on Windows. This are in detail

- math fonts needed by LyX
- needed python, perl, and UNIX shell files
- basic installation of MiKTeX
- ImageMagick
- Ghostscript
- Aspell
- GSview (optional)
- LyX 1.3.6 (with complete documentation)

The installer analyses your system and installs only the missing programs.

The big advantage is the guidance through the installation process. All program versions are tested to work together and are installed in the correct order and the correct folders. This assures to get a working LyX installation. (For example actual versions of ImageMagick have problems with EPS-files. That's why the installer includes an older version without this problem.)

The first beta release "0.1" of the installer can be downloaded from:

http://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=5117

There are two versions available:

- "Complete"; contains all programs listed above
- "Small"; doesn't contain MiKTeX and GSview (to reduce the download time)

PLEASE READ THE README FILES CAREFULLY BEFORE STARTING THE INSTALLER!

Note that this is the first release that might have bugs, so please save your LyX-files before trying out the installer.

It is very difficult to take care of all eventualities of different Windows installations, so I need your feedback. Please report bugs to this bugtracker:
http://developer.berlios.de/bugs/?group_id=5117
or directly to me.

At this point I want to thank Angus Leeming for his help - and without him no LyX for Windows!

I'm curious about your opinions and comments.

regards Uwe

p.s.
The installer is only partly internationalized, if you want to improve this, grab the source scripts
http://download.berlios.de/lyxwininstall/LyXPackage-0-1.rar
and follow the instructions in
http://download.berlios.de/lyxwininstall/ReadmeScripts.txt
Someone could also improve my bad english ;-)

p.p.s.
Can someone send me a LyX-file in the LyX1.2.x format for testing some conversion scripts? Thanks in advance.
