LyX tried to start but failed with:
couldn't find textclass.lst sorry has to exit.

Hi, Stephen. Could you give me a detailed prescription on how to
reproduce this?

Yes, I will do it again. I've deleted my original c:\Lyx install.
I uninstalled Lyx137 from Control Panel because it won't
start because of the missing textclass.lst error. I have deleted c:\program files\lyx and c:\documentss and settings\...
\...\Application data\stephen\lyx so there is no lyx installation/files.

Starting fresh then, I go to Control Panel, Add and Remove
programs (which I will do as I type this email and report it step by step). I stored lyx137_2 in lyxfiles and I start the
installation there. First thing is to approve English.

Lyx install finds my 6 helper applications, msys, perl, python,
ImageMagic, Texmf and ghostscript(gs) and says 'I will add
them to the path_prefix string of lyxrc.defaults' then 'I agree'

The next screen is choosing the install location. The default
location is c:\program files\lyx (using lyx_setup_137_version2.exe)
I don't want it there because I've experienced path with space problems with some other apps that interact with LyX.

I tested the install with the default directory c:\program files\lyx
and it certainly seem to install properly, no error messages.

Instead I create C:\LyX and change the destination directory
to C:\Lyx Then choose English again; I choose the default
components to install: all users, desktop icon, file associations;
And there is an Ok for a Lyx shortcut for startup (incidental).

I click install. The output graphic to c:\lyx completes about
98%. Then says "failed attempting to execute the configure script"
I click OK. The next screen appears: Completing the LyX Setup
Wizard" with a checkmark next to 'launch lyx' I click "Finish"

Lyx then does it routine which normally results in the
Lyx Welcome Screen being opened. But it doesn't, it says:

"Lyx wasn't able to find its layout descriptions! Check that the
file textclass.lst is installed correctly. Sorry has to exit (:- "
The LyX icon does appear, and Lyx can be removed in Control Panel.

Several installs ago I had to manually delete the Lyx directory
which was under c:\documents and settings ... \stephen\lyx
But that was already removed this time. Prior, Lyx136 installed to c:\lyx without error. To reproduce the error change the default
destination directory from c:\program files\lyx to c:\LyX

And as I said, if I do choose c:\program files\lyx , the install
proceeds without error. So the helper apps are in order and
they also worked before with Lyx136. However, I didn't notice
whether C:\Aspell was recognized with Lyx137 which worked Lyx136.

Stephen
