My adviser did not know what went wrong except that his lyx file could
not be compiled. (It was actually caused by the \texrm{\times}
problem.) So, after all, lyx file was not corrupted.

I had a similar story. I used SWP for a while and I was discouraged that
1. Its output can not be compiled under linux/Unix because of its
treatment of figures and other SWP-specific things.
2. There was no full undo.
3. Hard to use outside packages, manipulate preamble etc.
4. Can not customize shortcuts....
5, No linux version,

The latest version I tried was SWP5.0, there was no big improvement
except for the version number change.

Lyx was better than SWP in all these areas in version 1.1.6, the first
version I tried.
