Hello all,

I'm very confused about how to properly create an interword space. In LaTeX the standard way is to use "\ " for an interword space and \@ for the end-of-sentence spacing after punctuation. I was used to typing

bla, e.g.\ bla

to get the proper spacing (i.e. interword spacing). However in the LyX manual, the recommended way to do this is to use the protected space, i.e. ~. But this is not really the same thing, is it? If understand correctly "e.g.~bla" won't get broken at the end of a line as it should, right?

Could somebody, please, explain how to do this correctly?

Thank you,

David
