Why not edit the thing from the Edit->Preferences dialog? (The "PATH
prefix:" widget in the Paths pane.)

I just think we're talking at cross purposes. I'm trying to show you
functionality that exists already within LyX. You're suggestions
might best be added to the http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/LyXWinTips page.
(Or even to Rob Saunder's work-in-progress at
http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/Windows.)
