Thanks to everyone for the help. Coverting linebreaks from Mac style to UNIX style does the trick (though might it not be possible to program LyX to do this step for us?).
As for integrating all of the paste options, I think I'd be pretty happy if the system-wide copy function mapped onto LyX's text clipboard -- I don't find myself writing too many (read: any) LaTeX equations outside of LyX. And couldn't there be a toggle in preferences for people with the opposite disposition? (of course, this would make things irritating for people who do equal ammounts of both...)
