I have:
1) Copied the svmult.cls file to c:\localtexmf\tex (although I had to
create this \tex directory)
If my advice from below doesn't work, copy the file to MikDir\tex\latex
where MikDir is MikTeX's install directory, e.g. C:\miktex. (don't
forget to refresh MikTeX in this case)
2) Copied the layout files which I downloaded from

3) Ran "Refresh" from the MikTex Options tool
4) Ran "Edit -> Reconfigure" from within Lyx. Odd thing here: It prompts
me about package installation twice where the name and title of the
package is blank.
Not an odd thing. This means that the layout file was found and MikTeX
wants to install needed LaTeX-packages. The title is blank because you
don't have admin permissions. Try this again as administrator.
