it's clearly written, to some extent for the uninitiated, so quite
helpful.


To Alex, obviously, based on the response the point needs to be made
more explicit, namely, that the post would have remained as-is given
that my lack of 'background' makes it difficult to assess whether a
particular installation was straightforward.  In fact, this is exactly
the sense I got when visiting many of the common sites, before posting
here.  That's how I found this lyx posting list in the first place.  

Wanted get some serious feedback on the issue from the community at
large--in fact, one response, already mentioned, was quite
useful--hadn't that link. 

Please understand all this first--thought it was clear initially; then
you can get on with sarcasm that at least makes some sense.
