To Alex, obviously, based on the response the point needs to be made more explicit, namely, that the post would have remained as-is given that my lack of 'background' makes it difficult to assess whether a particular installation was straightforward. In fact, this is exactly the sense I got when visiting many of the common sites, before posting here. That's how I found this lyx posting list in the first place. Wanted get some serious feedback on the issue from the community at large--in fact, one response, already mentioned, was quite useful--hadn't that link. Please understand all this first--thought it was clear initially; then you can get on with sarcasm that at least makes some sense.
