Did you try to change "utf-8" to "iso-8859-1" in the "etc/sysconfig/i18n" file ?

Apparently this is not the case for lyx, so how does it work ??? I feel that it is VERY IMPORTANT to fix these problems. I, like so many people, am very fond of lyx.
