Thankyou for all the different ways. I am sure they all have a use somewhere depending on layout.

Actually i guess i just needed to know how to move down a line in eqnarray as that is what i was trying to do

Ctrl-enter should have guessed

Geoff, use the Eqnarray or one of the AMS align environments in the
Insert->Math menu.
