I've been trying to use Lyx for my biochemistry PhD thesis. Today I ran
across some LaTeX files which are formatted to our University Thesis Office
guidelines.

http://ee.tamu.edu/~tex/distrib/download.html

Unfortunately, after snagging these files, I've been struggling for the last
several hours to produce any useable output. I followed the instructions in
the Help->Customization (Section 5) but I'm just really confused trying to
make the layouts.

There's two files I think are important: eethe12.sty and eethesis.cls.  Now I
can see that eethesis.cls is read when I go to View->TeX Information->LaTeX
classes, but I don't see eethe12.sty when I go to View->TeX Information->LaTeX
styles.

Based on the documentation I think I am supposed to copy
/usr/share/lyx/layouts/report.layout to ~/.lyx/layouts/thesis.layout and make
some changes but I can't get it to show up in Layout->Document->Document
Class.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
