Is there a way -- other than running the spell checker which counts all
words -- to obtain a word count for a document? Specifically, I have a
300-word limit for an abstract I am writing and I'd like to write it in LyX
(report class) and submit it as a pdf file.
I can understand not wanting to spellcheck a big document if it
doesn't lend itself well to spell checking. But is this a problem with
a 300-word document? I.e. start the spell checker and just hit
"ignore all" till you're through.
Another approach: export ASCII and run wc on the exported file. This should be fine if you don't have tables (which gets rendered as +---------+ |tablecell| +----------+ and might confuse wc.
