I finally repaced teTeX with TL 2004 (removed teTeX completely and installed 
TL from the CD). Now LyX doesn't find the classes anymore.

From the command line, everything works fine. Also, TeXFiles.sh finds the 
classes. But the configure returns "not functional" for "latex latex2e". And 
"latex chkconfig.ltx" bails out with

Indeed, the chklayouts file has not been build.

Any ideas? (Could it be LyX is confused because latex (the program) has been 
replaced by pdfetex in TL 2004?)
