I guess I should have tried the unthinkable before
posting the question.

i.e. setting the margin to a negative value.   

\begin{datalog}{-4cm}{-4cm}
blah blah blah
\end{datalog}

works just fine.

What is confusing is that the margin is the white
space on the edge of the paper.   One would think that
it would not be logical to set a margin to less than
zero.

Anyway, is working just fine now.
