Sorry, Jean-Pierre, but I think that we're talking at cross purposes. I interpreted your original mail as saying that the dvi file showed your guillemets as ¡¡quoted¿¿. I therefore ran your tex file through my latex compiler and found that the resulting dvi file contained guillemets as expected. My conclusion? that my latex compiler is doing the right thing and your latex compiler is doing the wrong thing.
