I think that it will create files .lyxpipe.in and .lyxpipe.out. Note the
'.' at the front of the name. Start up lyx and then type

$ ls -a /home/s.chicken/

It probably makes more sense to create these files in your $HOME/.lyx
directory. Eg
        \lyxserver "/home/s.chicken/.lyx/pipe"

Well, you have to tell JabRef where to find these fifos. What does JabRef
think they're called?
