Yes, thanks for your help. It was a general comment, not about your suggestion. It looks to me like Lyx is going down the wrong path. The gui should represent the _logical_ structure of the document, not attempt to be wysiwyg. Paragraph "handles" and menu options that operate on all paragraphs would be welcome. This is prompting me to think about returning to auctex mode.
