Installing Lyx for Mac

I am just about to give up on the Mac version of Lyx but I thought I 
would make one more try. I have followed the instructions for both 
i-installer and fink. So far I have:

Downloaded the LyX program, ran the AppleScript setup, and can open it. 
Ran reconfigure.
Downloaded the gimp-print program and installed it.
Downloaded tetex etc using i-installer and fink (I tried both)

Result: the icon representing the printer and tex are still grayed out 
(non-functional).

Specs: I am using Mac OS X 10.3 latest update on a PowerBook G4.

Apologies for this rehashed newbie question.
