Prebuilt binaries (mainly rpms for linux distributions) should soon be available at ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/1.3.4/
May I ask you whether you have an estimate of the date?
I'm downloading the tarball now and will attempt to make a Mandrake RPM - I'll let you know if I get it working.
